The Happiness in Giving Back

The nicest feeling in the world is knowing that you have done a good deed to someone without expecting something in return. It is fulfilling to share whatever it is that you have to the people you have no connection at all. You share not because you want to let other people know how generous you are but because of your good intention to help. Not everyone may believe in this, but the truth is, in our little ways, we can make someone happy and it makes a lot of difference.

The boldest move I've made this year was to give away the stuffed toys kept under my bed and left unnoticed for the past few months. Don't get me wrong if I say that those were the gifts I received from the guy in my past relationship. I've been thinking about throwing those toys but I realized that only bitter women do such act. Instead of letting all the toys burn into ashes or end up in the trash can, I decided to share it to the kids who deserve some love and appreciation.

During the opening of Krispy Kreme's third branch in the city, some members of the Davao Bloggers and I were invited to celebrate the event. The team of KK also invited children from the Providence Home of St. Joseph  for "Share the Gift of Love." The guests were not tasked to bring something for the kids but the Davao Bloggers, with the initiative of Ms. Ria, thought that it's a good way to reach out to the children and help them in our little ways. So, the bloggers purchased some school materials to give away to the kids while I decided to get the big box of objects from the past.

Indeed, there is happiness in giving back. It felt great to connect with the children whom I met for the very first time. It was such a fulfilling feeling on my part to finally give away the things which remind me of many memories. Not only did I feel ultimate satisfaction but also genuine happiness when I reached out for the little ones. Yes, I was able to share and at the same time, I confirmed to myself that I no longer have something from my past relationship. I moved on and learned to let go.

Giving is more joyous than receiving, not because it is a deprivation, but because in the act of giving lies the expression of my aliveness.” ~ Erich Fromm

The Krispy Kreme team  made the children happy with their sweet acts of kindness! Each kid received a box of the original glazed doughnuts from the big men and women behind the success of this world's famous doughnut chain. The kids were also given a chance to decorate and design their own donuts. Isn't it amazing when we live in world full of gratitude, happiness and kindness?

This is my most favorite picture of all. I don't know the kid in the photo but I'm sure he was happy and thankful for the experience. I hope, wherever these kids are today, that they may find the right families who will accept and love them with no conditions. I hope that the toys will remind them that life is beautiful. There is no room for sadness and bad feelings because we are not born to feel them. We are here to share the love to everyone and to give back whatever it is that we receive.

The Krispy Kreme opening event at SM Lanang Premier was hosted by one of my friends in the law school. She is Resci Rizada, Mutya ng Dabaw 2009 and a GMA-Davao host. She is also one of the perfect example of women who have reached the highest peak of success but never forgets to share to the community.

I would like to extend my utmost gratitude to everyone out there who never gets tired of sharing and giving back. May God bless you for you have done amazing deeds!
