No Other Woman

I finally had the chance to see the movie "No Other Woman" with my boy friend and close friend. It felt great having watched the film with the two persons close to me. Most of the time, only Babe and I go to the movies. But this day, it was different. We invited my close friend to come along since she wanted to see the film and she can't be with her man for they just recently broke up. Good thing she doesn't have a thing for couples after having a broken heart. Because the film was really great, we went out of the cinema smiling. We had so much fun and we really enjoyed the film. 

I must say that this is the movie of the year. I think an hour and 45 minutes is not enough to really tell the story of the characters. Truly, Star Cinema and Viva Films prepared for this movie. The actors and actresses portrayed their roles very well. The cinematography was perfect. And most importantly, the story is relatable. The script was also written very well! I suggest everyone should watch this film for some of us will be able to relate to the different characters and we'll also learn many lessons about love and life.

The Secret of Your Sign

Since I have a free schedule for my Wednesday afternoon, I decided to have my Caramel Macchiato at South Brew's coffee shop and to continue reading the book I borrowed from the university library. The book was written by Michele Finey with the title "Secrets of the Zodiac." I really enjoy flipping through the pages of any zodiac books because every time I do so, I learn to understand myself better and find explanations for some of my personality traits. I believe in my sign and its stars which guide me on how I deal with myself, relationships and  other things in my life.

I'm done reading the book and I must say it's a good-read. It explains well the different signs of the zodiac and how they are related from one another. The book also deals with the different elements of the signs and how these affect their relationship from one another. I would like to share this to you:

More Than Sexy

Men and Women for Others

One of the values taught in Ateneo to its students is to become men and women for others. Jesuit education aims to produce graduates who have a great concern for everyone in the society.

Many people look at Ateneo students as socialites who care more about themselves than others. Many also think that these students are only good at partying and nothing else. However, if you take some time to get to know them, you will realize that they have so much care to give to other people. Ateneans are always ready to extend their helping hands.

I have proven this again yesterday. Many students from Ateneo de Davao University supported the mini-concert for a cause organized by my class. The said event was arranged in order to give support to my classmate (let's call him B) who greatly needs a financial support for his tuition fee this semester and his family needs. He goes to school without eating, he does not have the capacity to pay his school fees and his family is unable to pay all their debts. But despite all his financial problems, he is still able to show us his smiles and laughter. He is one of the strongest persons we know which serves as an inspiration to all of us. Because of his happy state despite everything that he is going through, we all decided to help him. We started from a simple everyday donation for him. The students from our section decided to give any amount every single day while some of us gave him grocery goods. Some of us even pledged to pay for his Kalasag (ADDU yearbook) subscription fee, his fine dining contribution and his tuition fee next semester. The class also planned for "Jam to Make a Dream Come True" where some of our classmates and friends showcased their singing talents. The tickets were valued at P20 and proceeds will go to B who is in great need of it. He also sang during the event.

With God's grace, many Ateneans supported the event. We were only expecting to sell 300 tickets but nearly 500 pieces were sold. If you do that math, total sales amounted to almost Php10,000. This amount may be a small amount to you but to B, it is much. We also gave him the everyday collections we made. All we want is to help him graduate because we believe in him. We have faith in him. I would like to thank all the people who listened to our call for help. Truly, you are a man/woman for others.

Cupid and Psyche's Love Story

When we talk about Cupid, the first thing that comes into our mind is love. We all regard him as the cute little child who matches persons to be lovers or who separates persons from being together. Persons shot with his gold-tipped arrows are matched to be in love with each other while his lead-tipped arrows had the opposite effect. On Valentine's day, we see his images everywhere. He is shown as a chubby little boy with white wings. He is holding a bow and an arrow ready to shot everyone he likes.

Before the mid-300's B.C., Cupid was described as a handsome and athletic young man. His early image was said to be..

Let me share to you some of the things I learned from World Book. The article I read was contributed by E. N. Genovese.

In Ancient Mythology, Cupid was the son of Venus - the goddess of love and beauty. He was

called "Amor" and known to be the god of love. Everyone admired her mother until Psyche (Sy Kee) came. She was a beautiful princess (a mortal) and people turned to worshipping her instead of Venus. Because of this, Venus was jealous and sent her son, Cupid, to punish Psyche. However, he fell in love with her and brought her to his fairyland palace of gold and gems. Cupid forbade Psyche to see what he looked like and visited her only at night. He told her that if she ever saw him in the light, he must leave her forever. But Psyche, urged by her wicked sisters, lighted a lamp while Cupid was asleep. This woke Cupid and he left Psyche.

In her grief, Psyche went to different places looking for Cupid. She searched everywhere until she reached the place of Venus. The goddess of love and beauty made her a slave and gave her nearly impossible tasks. She was able to accomplish the first three tasks and failed on the fourth task. She was asked by Venus to visit the queen of the underworld where she was trapped. Cupid knew of this and saved her. With the help of Jupiter, the king of gods, Venus forgave Cupid. Then, Cupid made Psyche his wife and a goddess.

There were different versions of the story and the one I shared above was my personal favorite. I always love happy endings!

A symbolic interpretation of the story between Cupid and Psyche has been made. According to the interpretation, Psyche (which means soul in Greek) represents the human soul's encounter with love and passion (Cupid) and its struggle to achieve immortality.

I have grown an interest in Ancient Mythologies and stories about gods and goddesses. That is why I find myself stuck in Greek and Roman Mythology books these days. I would love to accept any books from you! :)

Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago: Stand-Up Comedian

Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago has been known as the most serious woman in the Senate. She always have something to say in every issue and always speaks whatever comes into her mind. In fact, she is said to a be a hot-tempered senator. But despite all of those things, people also regard her as an intelligent woman. If you can see her interviews in televisions, you will surely admire the way she talks and most importantly, the things that she are talking about. I, myself, even like her. So much.

In one of her press interviews, she informed everyone that it's time for the people to know the real "Miriam." She wanted to change her image by showing a lighter side of her. Below is a video showing a happier "Miriam." Please watch the clip and enjoy! I swear, it will take all your worries away. The way she speaks everything in her speech is just so perfect.

Blogger App for iOS

It has been my hobby to download apps on the AppStore every night before going to sleep. I love having new games that I could play during my idle time and getting books/quotes app that I could easily read anytime. Last night, while I was browsing for different items on the AppStore, I saw the Blogger app. I was delighted having seen the app and downloaded it immediately. Thank you to the fast connection for it took me only one minute for the app to be installed completely. I immediately opened the application and signed in...

Thank you so much Google for releasing this app for the iPhone and iPod. When I searched about the Blogger app on the web, I found out that it was just uploaded last September 8, 2011 for iOS and last June 2011 for Android. With this application, I can now easily manage my blog. Pictures can also be uploaded easily in my posts. I can blog anytime and anywhere. Below are some of the screenshots of the Blogger app.

Thankful for Last Night

In our everyday lives, many things can really happen. Some of those may be great while some may be not. But we have to always remember that whatever happens, our attitude will be the ultimate driving force for the outcome of certain events. It is the way we look at things that makes a difference.

Yesterday, there was an unwanted thing that came my way. It was kind of stressful but when I decided to look at what happened in a brighter perspective, my mood has changed. Instead of being upset, I was grateful. I even learned that sometimes, bad things happen in order for me to realize how amazing good things are.

My younger brother got into an accident

It was around 7:30 last night (9-15-11) when my mom sent me a message asking me to text my brother why he's still not home. So, I did what she wanted me to do. I waited for Jayr (my one and only bro) to reply to my messages. An hour had passed and I heard nothing from him. Because of this, I also asked Abdel to contact my brother because he is usually the first person to know the whereabouts of Jayr. However, after another hour of waiting, we got no reply from him. This has caused anxiety for all of us. Babe even called his friends to check the plate number of the car and if there were any reported accidents or incidents concerning a white SUV. My mother started panicking not knowing where to go and what to do especially after we found out that my brother's cellphones' numbers were already unattended. At around 9:30pm, Davao 911 arrived at our place (I wasn't home that time yet, I was with Abdel looking for my brother) together with Jayr.

Then... mom was informed about this.

Jayr had an accident at Torres St. He was driving on his way home when suddenly, a garbage truck bumped into him. He had no other way to stop the collision from happening. If you look at the damage on his car, you'd probably think that he was badly hurt. Luckily and thankfully, he wasn't wounded nor injured. What is good is that he wasn't also charged for anything. According to the police, he had no fault in the accident that happened. He was not drunk driving and his speed was low. Thank you so much to 911 for all that you have done for my little brother!

I was happy knowing all these things. The important thing for me, my mom, dad and Abdel is that my brother is safe. We do not care about the damages on the car because it can still be fixed. Now, we are just so thankful that despite what happened, Jayr is okay and in good condition. The accident was a bad news but we decided to look at it on a lighter way. At least, no one got hurt. :)

Miss Philippines: A Stunner

Philippines made it again on the top five of this year's Miss Universe. Ms. Shamcey Supsup, the country's representative, may have not won the crown but she showed the whole world how amazing Fiipinas like her are. If you have seen the live telecast of the pageant earlier, you surely have witnessed how humble she was all through out the awarding. She was so confident and yet, her actions were based on humility. Every time her name was called by the hosts confirming that she belonged to top 16, top 10 and top 5, there was always this "shock" on her face. The way she walked with her long gown was also perfect. Most importantly, her answer on the Q & A portion was really brilliant.

Honestly, I believe that Ms. Shamcey had a big chance on winning the Miss Universe 2011 crown. If the question and answer portion is the final round and the answers of the candidates are the basis for judging, then Philippines will make it. She was the only candidate on the TOP 5 who answered the judge's question without the help on any interpreter. Also, she was straight-forward on what she wanted to say and made use of the 30-seconds time well. Even Oprah Winfrey (via NBC News) said "I have reservations with the results. If the only basis is the Q and A portion, after having been trimmed down to 5, Ms. Philippines deserved to win. What made her different from the rest is that she had no seconds to rethink of her answer as she had no interpreter to break the ice. The rest had their interpreters and having breaks on seconds to think about their answers. Hands down, Ms. Philippines answered straight to the point."

Nevertheless, I'm still happy that Ms. Philippines made it to the top 5 of Miss Universe 2011. She was the third runner up but in the hearts of many Filipinos, she have won. Congratulations Ms. Shamcey Supsup!

Need I say more?

RELIGION DOES NOT ALWAYS CORRELATE WITH ETHICS.

Don't be such a racist 'cause you know you're not perfect, so as your race. Accept things as they are and do not blame anybody just because they belong to a certain religion or simply does not have any. Love: Make or Break

Feelings and emotions change but doesn't mean that if you don't feel something for each other anymore, the love is gone. Love can sometimes turn numb or even be boring. You just have to be patient. 'Cause love itself is life. Not all the time you are in for all its happiness. Sometimes, you also have to give in with its bitterness. But no matter what, as long as you choose and decide to continue, it will be more beautiful.

The quote above is taken from the short-film made by JAMICH entitled "By Chance." The film shows the cycle of a relationship which starts with awkward-yet-cute moments then progresses into a comfortable friendship stage. After all the getting-to-know each other phase, the two person then jumps into a romantic stage where so much love, care, happiness and laughers are shared. The couple in this period is always seen smiling and laughing for both of them are in cloud nine. Everything seems new to them. Love is in the air all the time. There are no dull moments, only perfect fun times. Each of them understands each other very well. Of course, there are still little demands but those do not harm the relationship. However, after the seemingly perfect fairy-tale love story, some things start to change. The boyfriend and the girlfriend who used to be inseparable are starting to drift away. Misunderstandings, fights and arguments start to rise between them. They now forget the persons they were in the beginning of the relationship. In fact, it is during this stage that they want to give up and break up with each other. This is the very crucial part of every relationship - the make up or break up part. The question is "Let go or Hold on?"

Each of us may have different answers to the question above. Others choose to let go than stay in a relationship where happiness is no longer there while some choose to continue loving with the hope that things will change. Whatever your decision may be, always remember this important line from the quote above: FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS CHANGE BUT DOESN'T MEAN THAT IF YOU DON'T FEEL SOMETHING FOR EACH OTHER ANYMORE, THE LOVE IS GONE.

Sometimes, all we need to do is to be understanding and learn how to be patient. We have to accept that not all things will happen the way we want them to be. Our partners are not robots who will always follow whatever we say. In order to be happy in a relationship, we have to consider the "i", "you" and "WE." Most importantly, please remember that the misunderstanding stage of the relationship is only passing. When both the couple work hand in hand to solve the problems between them, all the pain will go. What's amazing is love will be stronger again. Remember, love is never gone. It is always there. But sometimes, because of close-mindedness and some relationship busters, love seems to fade. There is no perfect formula for a relationship but I'm certain that the steps I'm talking about exists -- Love, Hurt then Love again. As what my favorite teacher always tell me, "Algene, it is Love with Sacrifice." :)

P.S. When too much pain is there, I think letting go is the only option. Do not be a masochist, learn when to walk out in a relationship that does not give you chance to be happy and to mature. Know when enough is enough.

Cheer Up

Hey. I want you to know that people surrounding you will surely grieve if you die. So please, do them a favor. Hold on. Never give up. Stand still. Things may not turn out the way you want them to be but always remember that these are only temporary. Eventually, all the things that seem to hurt and bring you down will soon vanish. Never lose faith. Gather strength from the people who loves you and cares for you. Do not let melancholy take your life away. Always remember that there are many happy things in this world which you can't see because you have filled yourself and your life with so much blues. Take a step back and look at the bigger picture of your situation. You will discover that you are luckier than anybody else. Whatever your problems are in the moment are only passing. You can do many things to solve those and committing suicide is not one of the solutions. Let go of the negative thoughts, feelings and emotions. Instead of worrying, always embrace happiness. Start by being thankful for everything that comes your way no matter how small they may be. Smile.

YOUR LIFE MAY BE FULL OF STORMS RIGHT NOW BUT REMEMBER, IT CAN'T RAIN FOREVER. Tomorrow, the sun will shine and you will thank the rain for all that it has done to you. Because of the heavy rain, you will learn to appreciate more the light of the sun rays.

You are the author of your life. Make every page of it worth reading.
